According to Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics, Rise of The Tomb Raider‘s newest add-on entitled Cold Darkness Awakened is set to be available on March 29, 2016 for PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. For those unaware, this will be third and final expansion to be released for the action-adventure game starring Lara Croft, following December 2015’s Endurance Mode, and January 2016’s story DLC Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch.
Cold Darkness Awakened will take Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s fierce heroine to a decommissioned research base in Siberia that was operational during the Cold War, as Lara is tasked with shutting it down once more. Of course, doing so won’t be that easy for her, for she’s set to encounter “an army of nightmarish predators” intent on multiplying their numbers and inflicting violence in any way possible.
As seen below, Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s new DLC has also received a fresh trailer, and it gives gaming fans a taste of the action to come. Regarding Cold Darkness Awakened’s content, a description from Microsoft reads:
“A decommissioned Cold War research base has been breached, unleashing a deadly affliction from its Siberian slumber. As the illness seeps into the wilderness surrounding the base, Trinity soldiers transform into bloodthirsty killers who thrive on carnage. To prevent the affliction from spreading, Lara must rely on her wits, physical agility, and crafting abilities to overcome this new enemy and shut down the decommissioned base.”
For those looking to continue along with Lara in her adventures, Cold Darkness Awakened can be obtained in one of two ways. For those Rise of the Tomb Raider fans only wanting the forthcoming DLC as a standalone, it can be bought à la carte for $10 in the Xbox Marketplace, Steam, and Windows Store, and for players who wish to experience all of the expansions including Cold Darkness Awakened, it will be bundled in the game’s Season Pass for $30.
Of course, there are surely fans of the franchise who have yet to even play Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s base materials, so thankfully, the game has been marked down to $45 ($39 for Xbox Live Gold members) during Microsoft’s Spring Sale, which also sees the Xbox One receiving a price cut of $300. With the price drop enacted, now might be the best time for folks who haven’t taken part in Lara’s quests to nab the title, for on top of many considering it to be one of the top 10 best video games of 2015, the deal is set to end on March 28.
While PC and Xbox One fans have been privy to all that Rise of the Tomb Raider has to offer thus far, PlayStation 4 fans have been left out on the cold. Unfortunately, there’s still no official word as to when Sony’s current generation console will receive the title, and even though the majority of the game’s reviews were overwhelmingly positive, interest in the release making its way to the PS4 may have waned long before the Cold Darkness Awakened DLC launches.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is out now and is available for PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with a PlayStation 4 release planned for sometime later this year.
