In an effort to cater to lapsed players and increase overall interest in Destiny 2, Bungie recently communicated with the game’s fan base to reveal that it will be making some major changes to the Eververse in the way that people earn Bright Engrams and what items they reward. Now, in a further bid to show Guardians it’s taking their suggestions seriously, the developer has decided to update the science fiction shooter with its latest Hotfix, which allows fans who don’t own the Curse of Osiris DLC the chance to earn rewards from Faction Rallies and the Iron Banner in Season 2.
As many Destiny 2 fans might have expected, the latest patch for the game doesn’t bring about any other grand tweaks or changes aside from giving non-DLC owners access to Faction Rallies and Iron Banner rewards. As a matter of fact, the patch notes for the Hotfix simply consists of one sentence that reads, “Players who do not own Curse of Osiris now have the ability to earn Season 2 rewards within Faction Rallies and Iron Banner.”
For those unaware, Bungie’s original plans for seasonal content in Destiny 2 was much different, as the studio initially wanted players to purchase DLC in order to continue gaining access to the seasonal materials. Of course, the game’s fan base didn’t take the news as well as the studio had hoped, as many Guardians who didn’t buy Curse of Osiris eventually found out the hard way that they had access to less of the game than they did before. The anger from fans was so widespread that it spurred December’s Faction Rally event to be postponed so that Bungie could fix the situation.
Following the aforementioned cancellation, Destiny 2 has not had a Faction Rally or Iron Banner event since the beginning of Season 2, which started with the launch of Curse of Osiris. Thankfully, though, the first Season 2 Faction Rally is now officially live, and it includes new weapons and gear for all Guardians to earn, while the first Iron Banner for Season 2 will begin on January 30, 2018.
There’s no doubt that many Destiny 2 fans who decided to skip Curse of Osiris will be glad to learn that Season 2 rewards in Faction Rallies and the Iron Banner are no longer being kept away from them. While this is one small step in the right direction for Destiny 2‘s post-launch lifespan, Bungie still has a ways to go in order to win back the once-fervent adoration of its fans.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
