While winter remains across the landscape of Destiny 2, its annual holiday event called The Dawning has finally come to an end. With Bungie back at work after a holiday break, the team is preparing to get in touch with the community later this week about the state of the game and where it’s headed in 2018. The game has seen its fair share of controversies since it launched in the Fall of 2017 and the community is eager to hear how Bungie plans to correct and improve the game. Game director Christopher Barrett hopes to fill in the blanks on Thursday.
With Iron Banner and Faction Rallies recently made available all players once again, regardless of expansion ownership, fans have also managed to discover potential hints at other events on the way. Thanks to a series of datamines, players discovered new exotic weapon ornaments which all feature a familiar symbol attached to it. If true, the icon on each of the ornaments indicates that the Crimson Days event is making its first appearance in Destiny 2. For those not familair, Crimson Days was a Destiny 1 Valentine’s Day inspired holiday which had new quests, gear, and a special Crimson Doubles PvP mode for a limited time.
While fans continue to pass the time until Thursday, the weeky reset has made its return to the world of Destiny 2. Check out our complete guide to all the new activities available to players including the Nightfall, Flashpoint location, Raid challenge, and everything else for the week of January 9, 2018.
This week in the Nightfall, the Arms Dealer is back at it again. The Cabal leader known as Braccus Zahn is the target this week, tasking players with delving into his lair and putting him down for good. This strike is heavily focused on the Cabal, so players are advised to prepare to deal with waves of Psions, Legionnaires, and other Cabal-centric enemies.
The Fallen also make brief appearances during this strike as well, as the first few sections of this strike essentially put players in the middle of a battleground between these two factions. Players will also come across high powered enemies like a Colossus and a Seige Tank joining the fight at times as well. During these initial sections, Guardians will need to drop charges at specific drop points on the ship, while fighting off waves of enemies like the aggressive war beasts.
Continue following the path and taking out enemies and Zahn will make his presense known. Towards the end of the strike, players will find that Zahn isn’t one to stick around to fight. Players are able to get a few shots in on the Cabal before he uses his jetpack to make a quick escape at which point players will have not only chase him, but avoid traps such as turrets.
After finally reaching a large open room, the final battle will take place. During this phase, the room floods with Cabal troops and auto-defense turrets. Thankfully the room is large enough and filled with structures to gain a bit of space for recovery when needed. Continue chipping away at his health and taking down his shields as quickly as possible to finally end the fight and earn those rewards.

The player challenges for this week are:
The Flashpoint milestone has made its way back to the European Dead Zone this week. To earn Cayde’s weekly luminous engram, players need to participate in Public Events on the highlighted world for that week. Finishing the event and triggering the Heroic Modifier also go towards finishing the quest faster, so players should trigger Heroic Events as often as possible.
The weekly reset has also refreshed Cayde’s treasure caches as well. Players are no doubt well aware that loot can ranger anywhere from the exciting (exotic engrams) to the disappointing (mods and glimmer). Players will need to make sure to visit Cayde before embarking on this task as the maps themselves will first need to be purchased before the icons appear on the world map.
Here’s where to find all five chests this week on Io:
While providing new milestones and content, the weekly reset also shuffles the Leviathan Raid encounter order. While this not only helps to keep the experience fresh for veteran players, it also helps players new to the experience get used to the Raid while also giving them an opportunity to play each part even if struggling.
This week’s Raid Challenge is centered on the Cabal Emperor, Calus. Make sure to visit our guide for a walkthrough on the challenge in addition to some tips and tricks for surviving it.
This week, the order is as follows:
For players looking for more of a challenge when playing strikes, the Heroic Strikes playlist is the way to go in Destiny 2. Players above the minimum recommended power level of 270 have an opportunity to score better loot at the end of the mission. Complete three of these this week to earn a powerful loot engram.
Heroic Strikes – Complete 3 heroic strikes.
Call to Arms – Win glory by participating, getting kills, and finishing PvP matches from either the Quickplay or Competitive playlists. Finish the milestone and return to Shaxx to earn his weekly engram.
And that’s all for this week. Stay safe out there, Guardians!
