Despite the fact that it just became available late last year, the free-to-play Battle Royale portion of Epic Games and People Can Fly’s sandbox survival title Fortnite managed to establish itself as one of the best multiplayer games of 2017. Now, the game’s developers are starting the New Year off right by bringing a fresh weapon into the fold and releasing a limited-time mode called “Sneaky Silencer” that runs from January 5 to January 8.
As seen in the image below from Epic Games and People Can Fly, Fortnite will introduce a Silenced Pistol for the limited-time-only “Sneaky Silencer” mode that encourages players to showcase their stealth-driven skills once it’s picked up from treasure chests, supply drops, or as floor loot. Additionally, players can discover the new firearm as both an Epic and Legendary rarity within Battle Royale.
When it comes to the way Fortnite‘s Sneaky Silencer mode will operate, players will be thrust into a mode where weapons are restricted to Suppressed Pistols and Suppressed SMGs, traps are disabled, and Bush disguises will have a “greatly increased” drop rate. Additionally, the game’s developers have promised that no downtime will be required for the update, so fans should expect to be able to jump into action as soon as the mode becomes available.
Considering the nature of Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode, it will be interesting to see just how Sneaky Silencer’s matches will turn out when combatants who are used to the general chaos of the game are forced to play a bit more stealthily. Perhaps many will adopt the strategy of hiding out to win with no kills, as the rest of the players silently shoot one another to pieces.
Fortnite is available now in early access on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with its full launch occurring at some point in 2018.
