It wasn’t too long ago that Bayonetta 3 discussions were happening at Platinum Games, which caused fans of the action title to prepare for an official announcement for a third entry in the series. Now, following an introduction at The Game Awards 2017 from Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, it has been confirmed that Platinum Games’ hack-and-slash franchise will become a trilogy.
As seen in the Bayonetta 3 trailer below, the titular heroine of the title stands against a glowing otherworldly being giving her an absolute beat down with the help of what appears to be pure wizardry. Beyond Bayonetta’s seeming demise at the end of the teaser, though, little else is known about the forthcoming sequel at this time.
In addition to Bayonetta 3‘s announcement at The Game Awards 2017, Nintendo also treated fans of the franchise to the news that Bayonetta 1 and 2 would both be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the form of re-releases. They will be sold as a bundle with a physical version of Bayonetta 2 for Switch, while the copy of the first game is only going to be available digitally. The Bayonetta 1 and 2 bundle will be available for Nintendo Switch on February 16, 2018.
All things considered, it’s a safe bet to make that Bayonetta fans are elated to learn that the series will be continuing as a trilogy. Obviously, it’s too early to begin thinking about where the franchise could go beyond the forthcoming sequel, but it would be interesting to learn whether or not Platinum Games and Nintendo already have a road map for the property once Bayonetta 3 has hit the store shelves.
Bayonetta 3 is currently without an official release date, but it will launch as Nintendo Switch exclusive.
