Breaking Down the Destiny 2 Update Patch Notes

Curse of Osiris is now live, and with it comes a slew of sandbox changes and patches to increase the quality of life in Destiny 2. Changes are across the board for all classes and activities, as Bungie stated that sandbox changes would come in bulk at the start of Season 2. The 1.1.0 update also brings 4K support for both PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, and High Dynamic Range lighting to PlayStation 4 Pro

PvE players will see increased damage to bosses when using their supers, as well as a damage increase with almost every grenade type. Pulse grenades received a slight nerf to put them more on par with the other grenade options. Classes with two grenades, such as Striker Titans, will also see a decrease in grenade recharge rate for their second grenade if the first is already charged.

Among the changes coming to Titans is a fix for the Wardcliff Coil glitch, which when combined with a Titan’s rally barricade could provide infinite ammo. The Sunbreaker class of Titans also received a buff that allows for more hammers to be thrown during Hammer of Sol.

Hunters will see minor changes to Nightstalker, ensuring targets are immediately suppressed by Shadowshot on a direct hit, as well as increasing the time available to fire arrows while using the Moebius Quiver upgrade. Arcstrider dodge abilities now break tracking briefly as well, and the base duration for Golden Gun is now the same for both subclass trees.

In terms of activities in Destiny 2, the base power level for the Raid and Nightfall Strikes has increased. The recommended power level for the Leviathan Raid is now 300, with the Prestige mode jumping to power level 330. Nightfall Strikes are at recommended power level 270, with Prestige Nightfalls at power level 330. Strikes also received a buff to rewards, and players will earn more Glimmer and XP for strike completions. This comes with the introduction of the Heroic Strike playlist, which is a returning feature from Destiny 1.

Public events received a nerf in an attempt to even out rewards with other activities. XP gains, the amount of glimmer earned, and the number of rare quality rewards has all been reduced. However, legendary rewards have been increased for players at level 20 or higher.

Some of these Season 2 changes come as no surprise, particularly the pulse grenade nerf. Pulse grenades were incredibly strong in Season 1, which made the other grenades a nonfactor in day-to-day play. Hopefully, these grenade changes will encourage the use of other grenade types besides pulse grenades.

The buff to strike activities was much needed, as they were not worth the time investment when compared to public events. These changes are a step in the right direction to make strikes worth doing again. The hit to public events is not surprising, but the changes to them seem minimal compared to what it could have been.

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
