Destiny 2 Will Buff Token Rewards in December Update

Destiny 2 Will Buff Token Rewards in December Update

Major changes are coming to Destiny 2 in the next few weeks, including a Masterworks tier for weapons and ornaments for armor sets. But that’s not all as developer Bungie has also detailed a significant buff to the game’s token rewards system.

Writing in a new blog post Bungie explains that from December 5, Destiny 2 players will receive more tokens for completing activities. Daily challenges will reward players with more Reputation Tokens and Strikes will also drop more Vanguard Reputation Tokens. Common quality Destination Resource Tokens drop rates will increase by 100%, while the “values per Token increased as well (by 50% for common quality Tokens and 250% for rare quality Tokens).”

Moreover, Cayde’s Treasure Chests will “guarantee (at minimum) a payout of destination appropriate Reputation Tokens.” Though Bungie notes that Cayde’s Treasure Chests will still include “variable rewards.”

Bungie also explains that it is increasing the amount of Reputation required to unlock a reward engram. Unlocking reward engrams at Destination Factions will now cost 37% more while unlocking reward engrams at the Gunsmith will require 50% more Reputation Tokens. Some may be disappointed that the unlock requirements aren’t staying at their current level but the buff to the Reputation Token drop rates should still mean that engrams are easier to unlock.

This is not the first time that Bungie has buffed rewards for taking part in the game’s activities. The developer also overhauled the Faction Rally rewards in order to make players’ time and effort feel more valued. The changes being made to the game on December 5 should also go a long way on that front, as players just want to feel what they get out of the game is commensurate with what they put into it.

These forthcoming changes could also appease those who have been frustrated with the game’s token system as a whole. Some Destiny 2 players have argued that the token rewards system is a step backward for the game as it just made everything feel like too much of a grind.

Admittedly, the buff to the rewards is not going to win everyone over as the system does still require players to grind for something. But the buff should make it feel less like a grind, at least. And since Bungie has no plans to ditch the token system entirely, maybe this buff to rewards is a decent compromise.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
