Nintendo Switch Won Black Friday and Thanksgiving

Nintendo Switch Won Black Friday and Thanksgiving

The week of Black Friday and Thanksgiving is always the busiest shopping period of the year, as consumers rush out to take advantage of the best deals they can find. There were many hot items on sale this year, but when it comes to video game hardware, it appears as though the Nintendo Switch dominated both Black Friday and Thanksgiving.

According to a report by Adobe, the Nintendo Switch was one of the best-selling items on the web last week. It ranked as the best-selling item on November 22nd, Thanksgiving day, and Black Friday. The only day it was bested by competing hardware was on Saturday the 25th, when the Xbox One X managed to outsell it.

While we can’t confirm the accuracy of Adobe’s report at this time, the results do make sense. The Nintendo Switch has been selling like hot cakes, with many retailers struggling to keep it on store shelves. The Switch’s success has seen Nintendo dramatically increase production of the console, and its momentum shows no signs of slowing down.

Nintendo Switch Won Black Friday and Thanksgiving, Says Report - Skyrim Nintendo Switch

The Switch’s ability to function as both a handheld device and a home video game console seems to have widespread appeal among the gaming community. Its strong library of first-party games likely play a role in the console’s Thanksgiving and Black Friday dominance as well, as the Switch is home to some of the most critically-acclaimed video games of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey both earned near-unprecedented acclaim earlier this year, and both briefly held the position as the new highest-rated video game.

The success of the Nintendo Switch during the holiday shopping season isn’t surprising in the least, but some fans may be wondering where Sony’s PS4 is on Adobe’s rankings. If we believe Adobe’s data, it appears as though the PS4 didn’t have strong online sales this year, which seems to contradict a previous statement by Sony that the PS4 had one of the biggest Black Fridays ever.

Of course, it’s possible that the PS4 was more popular in brick and mortar stores, whereas most people looking for a Nintendo Switch opted to shop online. Either way, it appears as though all three console manufacturers have cause for celebration this holiday shopping season, and it will be interesting to see which console comes out on top next year.

The Nintendo Switch is available now.
