Final Fantasy 15 Comrades Multiplayer Expansion Delay

Final Fantasy 15 Comrades Multiplayer Expansion Delay

Final Fantasy 15 fans who were anxiously awaiting the game’s multiplayer expansion, Comrades, will have to wait just a short while longer than previously expected. Today Square Enix announced that Comrades would not be ready for its October 31 release date, receiving a short delay into early November. No new release date was revealed in specific, but Square Enix’s language implies that the delay should only be a matter of one or two weeks.

Square Enix followed up the announcement, which was made on social media, with a short apology to Final Fantasy 15 fans:

“We’re sorry for any inconveniences this has caused but as soon as we can confirm the new #FFXVComrades release date, we’ll let you know.”

Necessary “adjustments” were cited as the cause for the delay, but no further details were provided by Square Enix.

The Comrades expansion is a part of Final Fantasy 15‘s Season Pass, which includes story-based episodes for supporting characters Gladiolus, Prompto, and Ignis (forthcoming) as well as various minor microtransactions. Comrades itself is likely to be much larger than the other parts of the Season Pass, due to its scope. It also provides Square Enix the opportunity to continue releasing new content for the game beyond the Season Pass. Comrades will be available apart from the Season Pass, but a price has yet to be set.

Such a short delay shouldn’t worry excited fans too much, though the lateness of the delay is surprising. A 1-2 week delay implies that there aren’t significant issues with the expansion. The delay may be a simple certification issue, which would also explain the lack of a new release date, or it could be a marketing decision. The end of October is going to be buried in big, popular releases, but a mid-November launch this year is surprisingly less congested, but would still be in time for Black Friday.

Barring another issue cropping up, it’s probably safe to expect Final Fantasy 15‘s multiplayer expansion prior to the week of the 24th. That makes November 7 or November 14 the most likely dates for a new launch, given typical digital releases on console platforms often arrive on Tuesdays. Expect official confirmation on the release date soon.

Final Fantasy 15 is available now on PS4 and Xbox One. A PC release is planned for early 2018.
