With the release of South Park: The Fractured But Whole just a weekend away, Ubisoft has decided it’s time to unveil the raunchy RPG‘s post-launch DLC plans. South Park: The Fractured But Whole‘s Season Pass features a collection of three DLC packs to be delivered in the months after launch, as well some “Day One” DLC to help with the wait. Those who buy the full game will be able to purchase the Season Pass starting on October 17, launch day, for an additional $29.99.
Three DLC expansions will make up the bulk of South Park: The Fractured But Whole‘s Season Pass. Two of those DLC packages will add new story content and the third will be a challenge mode with unique costumes and artifacts available as a reward. The story DLC won’t be available until 2018 while the challenge mode will launch in December.
Pricing is notably efficient, so South Park: The Fractured But Whole players that are only interested in story content can skip out on the Danger Deck and end up saving some money compared to the full Season Pass.
The two “Day One” DLC bits are the Relics of Zaron costume and perks pack and the Towelie: Your Gaming Bud DLC, who provides in-game tips. They’ll cost $4.99 and $1.99, and release on October 17 and 24 respectively.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole‘s was initially revealed as part of the game’s special editions and is not unprecedented. The RPG’s predecessor did feature DLC in much smaller scale. South Park: The Stick of Truth had a small amount of platform exclusive and collector’s edition exclusive DLC. The increased DLC offering seems in-line with what Ubisoft now regularly puts out with any of its large games.
The timeliness of Ubisoft’s announcement may seem somewhat suspect, too. With South Park: The Fractured But Whole just a few days from officially launching, burying a Season Pass announcement on a Friday could be taken as Ubisoft hoping the news doesn’t spread very far. Ubisoft could be worried about the online reaction to the announcement, have little faith in the DLC, or may simply not have prepared for the announcement adequately. The launch of the full game may help clarify the situation.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole releases on October 17 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
